Two recent events underscore the urgent necessity for immediate police reform efforts #politics

A recent incident at the Komuravelli Temple in Telangana and the aggression faced by the police during the Namaz road incident in Delhi has highlighted the urgent need for police reforms in India. The contrasting responses of law enforcement towards Hindu devotees and Islamists have sparked debates on the colonial nature of the police force.

In the first incident, during the celebration of Mahashivaratri, police resorted to aggressive tactics and baton-charged devotees, including women, at the Komuravelli Temple in Telangana. The indiscriminate use of force led to chaos and outrage among witnesses, overshadowing the spiritual observance.

Shanthikumar, Telangana BJP’s treasurer, condemned the actions of the police, stating, “At Komuravelli Temple in Siddipet district of Telangana, police baton-charged innocent devotees, including women. This is an attack on the fundamental rights of Hindus.”

On the other hand, in Delhi’s Indralok area, a video surfaced showing a police officer intervening with individuals offering Namaz on the road. The officer, identified as SI Manoj Tomar, resorted to physical intervention after repeated warnings to the group. Subsequently, a Muslim mob surrounded the officer, leading to a heated argument and threats against him.

The incidents have raised concerns about the bias in policing and the need for proper training and sensitization of law enforcement agencies. The videos circulating online have ignited discussions on the need for a massive overhaul of the police mechanism to ensure fair and effective enforcement of law without discrimination.
