“Concerns raised over efforts to sow division between North and South India” #politics

In a recent article published by Bloomberg’s Andy Mukherjee, titled “Why India’s South Rejects Modi — And Why It Matters”, socio-economic differences between North and South India were highlighted. This move was seen as a devious attempt to smear incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling BJP ahead of the upcoming national elections. Calling out this divisive effort, former Indian Ambassador to Russia Kanwal Sibal tweeted, “Promoting N-S division is a new effort by anti-Indian western lobbies along with anti-Modi internal ones to add to caste & minority persecution narratives.”

This comes amidst deteriorating ties between India and the US, with various analyses documenting the strained relationship. At the same time, India has emerged as a globally significant Great Power, as seen in various reports on the country’s diplomatic stance and international engagements.

The article suggests that the West’s information warfare motivations are becoming evident, with the narrative pushed by Mukherjee being exploited by Bloomberg to pressure India on false “values” pretexts. This is seen as a move to punish the country for its sovereign domestic and foreign policies, as part of a larger Hybrid Warfare campaign aimed at subordinating targeted states.

Viewed through the lens of Hybrid Warfare, Mukherjee’s piece is seen as the opening salvo of a new Western campaign that is expected to intensify during Prime Minister Modi’s third term.
