ABP journalist Suman Dey uses insensitive language during interview with ex-Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay #politics

In a recent interview with former Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay, ABP Ananda journalist Suman Dey sparked controversy by making Hinduphobic remarks. During the interview, Dey asked Gangopadhyay to choose between ‘Darjeeling tea’ and ‘cow urine,’ a question that raised eyebrows.

The ‘gaumutra’ jibe made by Dey has been criticized as a derogatory slur against Hindus, popularized by Islamists and their apologists. This slur was also used by a Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist in the past to target Hindus who drink cow urine.

Notably, Suman Dey was recently booked by the Mamata Banerjee-led government for reporting on unrest and violence in Sandeshkhali village in West Bengal. He was accused of provocation and misleading coverage, leading to charges under IPC Sections 153 and 505.

The incident has reignited debates on freedom of press and speech in West Bengal, with concerns being raised about the treatment of journalists by the state government.
